The green-headed tanager is a brightly colored bird found in the Atlantic forest in south-eastern Brazil. It has a greenish or bluish head, black on the back, and a contrastingly colored, orange or red rump, While essentially a bird of humid forests, it is also common in orchards and parks where it moves through the canopy, making itself inconspicuous, due to its flashy blue-green coloration camouflages. They gather in small groups and often accompany mixed flocks. It feeds on wild fruits, preferably small, dark-colored ones. It is occasionally seen eating small insects and their larvae.
