Bio-Heirs Expedition 2026
Connecting generations through science and art in the Atlantic Forest, this is a unique and exclusive activity, designed to be a milestone in environmental education and the strengthening of family ties.
The Bio-Heirs Expedition, which will take place from July 23rd to 26th, 2027, is a scientific and artistic immersion held at Altos de Lumiar Birding Lodge, located in the prestigious Macaé de Cima Environmental Protection Area. The objective is to connect parents, grandparents, and children (ages 7 to 12) to the Atlantic Forest ecosystem, under the mentorship of three of the leading figures in ornithology and photography in Brazil:
– Daniel and Gabriel Mello (Mello Brothers): References in science, identification, and field knowledge.
– João Quental: Master in the art of bird photography.
The Expedition’s Unique Feature
1. Practical and Scientific Immersion: Observation and recording of species in one of the country’s largest biodiversity sanctuaries: the Macaé de Cima APA. Children will learn to look at nature with the rigor of a scientist and the eye of an artist.
2. Equipment and Technology: To ensure maximum benefit, the Lodge will provide a professional (easy-to-operate) camera for each child to use during field trips and practical classes with João Quental.
3. Ultra-Premium Kit (The Legacy): Each young expedition member will receive an exclusive kit to continue their journey as an observer: Professional binoculars (which the child will take home); Camouflage hiking backpack; UV-protective T-shirt; Personalized digital album with expedition records.
4. Biodiversity Ambassadors: More than an event, the expedition seeks to train ambassadors for the environmental cause. This project is a strategic pillar of our Lodge and will be held annually, consolidating a conservation legacy for future generations.
